Spencer for Hire
Not many adults can boast about working on tons of TV shows and movies. Or about having Tim Allen as your friend. So just how does someone whose only 14 acquire such bragging rights? Zeeks interrogates Spencer Breslin, the young star of The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, to find out what gives!
Zeeks: How did you get started in acting?
Spencer: I was discovered in a playground here in New York City when I was three years old, and a talent scout asked my mom if I was interested in doing commercials. I tried it and loved it, and it kinda went from there.
Zeeks: You do a lot of movies with Tim Allen. How did that come about?
Spencer: I'm not really sure. It just kinda happens, I guess. I got very lucky.
Zeeks: What's Tim like to work with?
Spencer: He is one of the nicest people I've ever worked with. Always funny on set, and he's just a great actor.
Zeeks: Tell us about the role you play in The Santa Clause 3.
Spencer: I'm reprising the role of Curtis the Elf, who is the head elf at the North Pole. He's just a really fun character to play. In the last movie, Curtis was the number two elf, and he didn't have as much to worry about. Now that he's been promoted to head elf, there's a lot of pressure on him, so he's a lot more neurotic. That was really fun to do.
Zeeks: Best thing about making a movie?
Spencer: Hmm, that's a tough one. It's really fun getting to travel and meet new people, and I get to work on my craft.
Zeeks: Worst thing about making a movie?
Spencer: Having to go to school on set, ha ha! Actually, there isn't really anything I dislike about it.
Zeeks: Any tips for aspiring young actors?
Spencer: You have to be able to take rejection and not let it get to you because everyone experiences it. You just have to keep on truckin', no matter how long it takes.
Zeeks: What's your favorite video game?
Spencer: Probably Max Payne or Madden NFL (whatever year).
Zeeks: Favorite book?
Spencer: Either "The Da Vinci Code" or "Robinson Crusoe".
Zeeks: Favorite movie?
Spencer: "The Godfather" or "2001: A Space Odyssey".
Zeeks: Favorite thing to eat?
Spencer: That's a very hard question, ha ha! Steak, burgers, pasta, etc.
Zeeks: Favorite subject in school?
Spencer: American History
Zeeks: Do you go to a regular school or take classes on the set?
Spencer: I'm home-schooled, but when I'm working, they have a teacher on set and I have to do three hours a day.
Zeeks: Favorite place you ever went on vacation?
Spencer: London
Zeeks: Do you have any pets? If so, what are they?
Spencer: Curtis, whose a dog, Storm, another dog, Amy my cat, Manny, the turtle, and some fish.
Zeeks: What are you working on now?
Spencer: A documentary about how kids my age were affected by September 11th. I'm the lead singer in a rock band, Not Quite Dead Yet.
Zeeks: Finish this sentence: When I grow up, I want to be...
Spencer: An actor, director, musician and pilot
