Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Limited Edition Collector’s Set

MPAA Rating: PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi action violence
Release date: Feb. 20, 2007

Based on the hit PlayStation game Final Fantasy VII, this movie picks up two years after an epic battle between the forces of good and evil. The city of Midgard is devastated by a horrible disease afflicting its young citizens.

When a trio of brothers arrives with a “cure” for the plague, their gesture conceals a more sinister purpose. Their goal is to revive Sephiroth, a villain who was defeated two years earlier, and bring about the end of the world. Cloud Strife, a genetically altered warrior who walked away from his former life to live in solitude, is thrust back into danger.

Cloud and his companions must do everything in their power to stop the brothers and the resurrected Sephiroth from bringing about total destruction.

Visually, this movie is downright awesome. The computer animation is crisp and clear, and the action is fast and intense, maybe too much so (it’s NOT for young kids). I can see how you’d be drawn into the Final Fantasy series.

However, unless you’re a hardcore fan of the video game, you’ll probably be a little confused — ok, a lot confused — with the plot. In short, it’s complicated. It’ll make your brain hurt if you’re not familiar with the game.

Originally released on DVD on April 25, 2006, this new Limited Edition Collector’s Set contains the original Japanese language version, as well as an English-dubbed edition (Rachel Leigh Cook, Steve Burton, and Christy Carlson Romano, among others, provide the voices). It also contains a ton of special features and a version edited for the Venice Film Festival.
