Flicka

FLICKA

MPAA Rating: PG for some mild language
Released in Theaters: Oct. 20, 2006

A girl and her horse and her dad on a ranch in Wyoming. We’ve seen movies with this storyline before — girl has dreams, adopts some four-legged friend, and has to battle adults at every turn. But this story is backed by the classic Mary O’Hara novel, “My Friend, Flicka”.

In this depiction, a young girl longs to be on her family’s ranch instead of her boarding school, but her dad (Tim McGraw) wants her to graduate and go to college.

While home on summer break, Katie spots a wild mustang. She wants to ride the horse, but her pops says, ‘no can do’. A mustang would be trouble on a quarter horse ranch. Her dad is also struggling to prevent the ranch from being sold to land developers, and he’s grooming Katie’s older bro to run the ranch.

Sweeping landscapes, goose-bumpy music, save-the-farm storyline, rebellious girl with fly-away hair…yeah, it’s been done. But if you love horses and/or inspiring stories, you’ll like this movie. In fact, the scenery is so awesome, you’ll likely want to fly to Wyoming to see it for yourself!
